About Certified Social Workers

1. Certified social workers are the professions of social welfare.

Certified social workers are approved as the national qualification of social welfare defined in the law of certified social workers and care workers as “those who provide counseling, advise, guide and other services with social work knowledge and skills for those who are physically or mentally disabled and can not lead a daily life due to environmental reasons.”

2. Professional ethics

Certified social workers provide social welfare services based on “Code of Ethics of Social Work” which specifies “principles that professional social workers should serve”. Certified social workers should always listen to clients, respect clients’ ways of thinking and views, and pay regard to clients’ confidentiality.

3. Self-study as profession

Certified social workers make an effort for the improvement of their professional skills, and also acquire the knowledge and the latest trend of social welfare to provide better social welfare services. The Association of Certified Social Workers provides a lifelong training system to support its members’ self-study. The members are studying through this system to improve their professional skills.

Certified social workers support as the professions of social welfare people of all ages to solve their problems in all areas.

With the elderly
Certified social workers support the elderly so that they can independently lead a daily life even if they need care services.
With disabled people
Certified social workers support disabled people based on their individual disabilities so that they can independently lead a daily life and participate in the society.
With children
Certified social workers protect the rights of children and support them to solve their problems including abuses and juvenile delinquencies.
With people who need support due to economic reasons
Certified social workers protect the rights of the people and support them to live.
At hospitals
Certified social workers consult the difficulties of patients in and out of hospitals.
In communities
Certified social workers support the improvement of community welfare through the network among volunteer groups and people.

Corporate Juridical Person “Japanese Association of Certified Social Workers (JACSW)”

The Association was established in 1993 and permitted to make JACSW of a corporate juridical person in 1996. In every 47 prefectures of Japan, there is a chapter of JACSW.
JACSW aims:
To establish an ethical standard of the social welfare for certified social workers;
To elaborate the technical expertise and to improve the quality and social status of certified social workers;
To contribute to the protection of the life and rights of those who need social welfare services;
To improve the general conditions of social welfare for the public.
